Lydia Kalis, sculptor

At the age of seventeen, I entered the Lyon Art School. My teacher, René Chancrin, a well-known painter, shared his knowledge and passion for art with us.

The next five years were a bit chaotic as I worked as a freelancer for an American advertising agency.

A few years later, in the South of France, I opened an artist's studio where painting, mural sculpture, decoration and trompe l'oeil allowed me to meet great people and share my passion for art.

For about ten years I worked in the workshop of the sculptor Philippe Chazot, where I searched, observed and learned. Sculpting has become a priority and brings me happiness and strength, which helps me to remain authentic. The feeling of creating with clay is my greatest joy.

There is also the pleasure of seeing others look at my work and  appreciate the result. It helps me to show my love for art and to stay true to my beliefs.

I am free to create and live my emotions while remaining sincere in my approach and keeping my childlike soul.
